Boots

Lets talk about equipment a little bit. You probably don’t care, but let us try this out anyway.

I have been wearing Danner 453  Gore-Tex Hikers for about 3 years. I have walked the bottom off of two pair, and the leather rotted away on one pair in that time. They weigh 3.2 pounds per pair and are actually waterproof. The D ring eyelets are hard on laces, so you need the really tough, skinny kind, waxed if you can find them. These boots are great and I will continue to wear them.

I am breaking in a new pair of Danner TFX Waterproof Hikers now. These boots are very similar to the 453’s, but weigh only 2.8 pounds per pair. I do not know yet if they will be waterproof or how their grip is. I do know that the comfort on the bottom of my feet seems a little suspect so far. I wear a wide width, and it feels like the insole is maybe not well matched to the wide sole?  The lacing system is a traditional eyelet, with two hooks at the top. I find it most comfortable to only use one hook. We will see after I get some real miles on them. But otherwise I do like them so far.

See, that was information you could not live without. Right?
